Highlights

Opening in 2022, the IU Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology will present IU’s world-class collections from around the globe in newly-designed exhibition galleries and learning labs.

More Info

IU’s newest museum will turn “inside-out” for visitors when it opens in 2022. The IU Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology will present archaeological and ethnographic artifacts in collection areas, exhibits, and learning spaces that will make its materials and activities more open and accessible than most museums.

IUMAA will bring together over 5 ½ million objects from the Glenn Black Laboratory of Archaeology and the Mathers Museum of World Cultures to tell the story of humanity, from the rich heritage of Indiana’s First Peoples to the lives of contemporary Hoosiers, and how those stories are connected to peoples around the world.

The museum's “inside-out” approach will enable visitors to walk behind-the-scenes to view more collections and learn about museum research and study; programming spaces will connect offsite teachers and students to museum educators and curators; and immersive virtual technology in the galleries will enable visitors to engage with objects and places in new ways.

Your tax-deductible gift will support these initiatives and more. They’ll help fund a new museum at IU and the state’s only museum of its kind. Help us build and shape IUMAA for the 21st century.
