Please consider a gift to support the Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine Fellowship program at the IU School of Medicine.

The IU School of Medicine Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellowship program has several goals. We are focused on the advancement of clinical skills, scientific knowledge, and ethical standards of trainees to prepare them for a career as a clinician, educator, or scientist. Additionally, we strive to prepare physicians for careers in academic medicine through exposure and participation in high-quality research, both in the basic sciences and clinical outcomes research. We also have the charge of providing well-trained clinical pulmonologists and intensivists for the state of Indiana.

All of our fellows receive a breadth and depth of clinical experience that fully prepares them for a career in pulmonary and critical care medicine. Additionally, many of our trainees elect to pursue careers in academic medicine; these careers have included basic science research, clinical outcomes research, ethics, and medical education.

Dr. Gabriel Bosslet turned his “nervous anxiety” during the pandemic into a Facebook page, called the “Daily Hoosier Covid-19 Update” using public data to make sense of the path of Covid 19. As a pulmonary physician and fellowship director for pulmonary and critical care at the IU School of Medicine, he has been in charge of preparing and sending fellows to the front lines of the Covid battle. These fellows, or “heroes” as he calls them, were crucial as the coronavirus hit and more physicians were needed.

Bosslet wrote a tribute to one “hero” Michael Burk: “This morning Michael Burk got up, hugged his wife, Lindsey, and two kids goodbye before heading to the ICU to fight COVID-19. Doing this at the end of his fellowship is a little like running back into a burning building to save more people.”

To honor these “heroes” Dr. Bosslet would like to provide exceptional education opportunities and experiences for future pulmonary fellows at the IU School of Medicine. Please consider a gift to help make this happen.

Gabriel Bosslet, MD, is Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine in the Department of Pulmonary, Critical Care, Sleep and Occupational Medicine and is Assistant Dean for Faculty Affairs and Professional Development at Indiana University School of Medicine. He is also the Fellowship Director for Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. He sees patients in his lung diseases clinic and in the ICU at University and Eskenazi Hospitals in Indianapolis, IN. Gabriel lives with his wife and four kids and enjoys running, reading, and hanging out with his family. He started the Hoosier COVID Update page on Facebook in March to help inform those around Indiana about the Coronavirus and its effect on the state and posts there three times weekly.
