IUF Crowdfunding

Highlights

The COVID-19 pandemic has directly affected students not only in the way classes are delivered to them, but it has also created indirect hardships such as food insecurity, inability to attend remote classes due to limited access to internet, and even the inability to pay tuition due to the loss of work for themselves and/or their families. The IUPUC Student Emergency Assistance Fund was created to provide financial assistance to students who have encountered these types of unforeseen financial hardships that would prohibit them from pursuing their education without additional financial support.

More Info

Walking the hallways and peering into partially-filled classrooms on campus reveals the overt impact that the COVID-19 pandemic has had on the university, but what is not so evident is the toll it has taken on students outside of the classroom. While IUPUC was able to quickly pivot to online delivery of courses, such was not the case for some of our students, who faced financial and technological struggles due to the pandemic.

Since last spring, IUPUC has received more than $20,000 in requests for assistance directly related to unforeseen hardships. Our students are facing food insecurity, issues with technology that include the lack of access to computers and the internet for online learning, and the inability to pay tuition due to the loss of work for themselves, or their family. IUPUC Student Emergency Assistance Fund was created to provide financial assistance to students who have encountered these types of unforeseen financial hardships that are prohibiting them from pursuing their education without additional financial support. To date, the fund has helped about half of the students requesting assistance, but each week brings new hardships and new requests.

The Student Emergency Assistance recently provided assistance to a student who lost their job, enabling them to continue their education. “My wife, son and I have been extremely blessed by the support IUPUC has given. I am on my way now to graduation in December this year, and I am not sure that would have been possible without the support of the IUPUC community and staff.”
